HS828 Review

There's very little not to like about my HS828. I bought it used two years ago and have moved tons (literally) of snow since. Honda spent time listening to those of us who move a lot of snow. The HS drive works great, the multi-height adjuster is perfect since I have both a large deck and a gravel driveway. It throws the snow 30-40 ft and cuts through even the very wet stuff without much of a problem. I have only two little things that I'd change: the main problem is the primary auger shear bolts are very small and consequently shear very easily. I've got through 10 already this season. Some of the shears are legit: large rocks and a frozen pair of BVDs - both caused a shear as they should. But most often I can't even find the cause of the shear. Fortunately they are a 2-minute replacement job. Most other blowers of this size have much larger shear bolts. Second and much lesser issue is that I'd like to see a much faster reverse speed. I'm sure it's knocked down for safety, but when you're plowing lots of snow with long runs where turning around isn't a good option, it can take a long time to back up. I always recommend getting this unit with the light attachment. Make sure to clean the snow from all moving parts before stowing, otherwise it will freeze the auger or chute. The motor has the right power for the size of the blower and seems indestructible. I use my blower in all types of terrain and conditions without a hitch. Mine has the electric start that I've never had to even try. Starts on 1st or 2nd pull every time.
